Research: How to make a short film

Hello, today we will be talking about how to make a short film. Our biggest takeaway from this video is that making a short film is about knowing what you can do with what you have and making your writing correspond with your budget and team. While watching this video we learned that for a short film, you should write to the strengths and weaknesses of your cast. Make sure to give 100% when acting to complete the short film. Also, if you do not have great technology to record sound do not make your film dialogue heavy. A good way to keep morale up is by having snacks and drinks and being comfortable. If you are doing post-production by yourself, make sure to make time to step away from it to see it clearly. Also bringing somebody else to give a new opinion can give a new outlook which can result in helpful feedback. Try to keep on cutting it until it feels too tight then let it breathe afterwards. Soundly is a good way to find sound effects and instrumentals. Getting and giving notes is very important if you're working with people and Google Docs with timecode on it is a good tool to use for notes. Make sure to not write what you cannot physically do. If you can't pull off visual effects don't put it in your short film. Doing something you cannot pull off will reduce the value of your film. When writing think of setups and payoffs it could be either emotional or story. If first, you want to get left then go right instead to shock the audience. Make sure to let the theme guide your story for the short film. When using gear make sure to use things that would fit the feeling you're trying to give to the audience. This video helped us think more about how our budget and cast should affect the writing as well as the technology. This video was very helpful in regard to teaching us how to create a better process for short films.
